DIY Hobbes from the Calvin and Hobbes Comic Strip. The creator of Calvin and Hobbes, Bill Watterson, never licensed any of his characters for anything – so there are no mugs, no stuffed characters etc… This tutorial from Instructables here makes it really clear that there is lots of hand stitching, but Hobbes is made out of easy and inexpensive fleece.

DIY Branch Heart Photo Holder. Do you know people who get hurt all the time while trying to cook things, fix things or craft? I do and I wouldn’t let them near this one! Easy tutorial (but using an Exacto knife to carve) at Homework today’s assingment: be inspired here.

DIY How to Bend Popsicle Sticks for Wooden Helix Vase (on right). The one photo download I picked has another pattern (on the left) that reminds me of bones that I like the best. I don’t come across really original ideas that often – and this is clever. Tutorial (also she researched the best way to bed the sticks and has written and video instructions on it) is at The Cheese Thief here. *I would do all sorts of patterns (these sticks are cheap at crafts’ stores and so are the glass containers) and leave them without the flowers so you could see the “bones” of the piece.

DIY Free Matchbox Office Supply Book Covers. There are tutorials elsewhere on the web for the box to house the matchboxes. Tutorial and free printables from Dollar Store Crafts here. *I really like the covers Heather did, but would also change the templates in Photoshop to vintage book covers or copyright free textures in cool colors.

DIY Inspiration. Artist Cindy Taylor creates the most wonderful googly eye accessories at Googly Creations here. Her googly art is for sale at Puremodern here. *Anyone who read my blog during Halloween knows I post I love and post tons of googly eye crafts. I even have a page tagged “googly eyes” here.
